Enterococcus Casseliflavus

VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus) - Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus is a strain of the bacterium Enterococcus that is resisiant to Vancomycin, an antibiotic. It occurs in the digestive and urinary tracts of humans.

Enterococcus - Enterococcus is a genus of bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes. They are round gram-positive cells which occur in pairs and are difficult to distinguish from Streptococcus.

Enterococcus faecalis - Enterococci, traditionally viewed as Gram-positive commensal bacteria inhabiting the alimentary canals of humans and animals, are now acknowledged to be organisms capable of causing life-threatening infections in humans, especially in the nosocomial (hospital) environment. The existence of enterococci in such a dual role is facilitated, at least in part, by its intrinsic and acquired resistance to virtually all antibiotics currently in use.

Quinupristin-dalfopristin - Quinupristin-dalfopristin (Synercid®) is a combination of two antibiotics used to treat infections by staphylococci and by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium. It is not effective against Enterococcus faecalis infections.
